It Could be the Largest Shopping Mall in Budapest

Jan 28th, 2020

With the expansion planned to Arena Plaza, it is on a pathway to become the largest shopping mall in Budapest.

Symmetry Arena Property Management Ltd. has applied for a permit to expand the Arena Mall, according to HVG. If this project is realized, it will be Hungary's largest shopping mall, overtaking Westend’s place.

  • With the planned expansion of 18,000 square meters, the store will expand from 42,000 square meters to 1.5 times its floor area.
  • This would increase the built-up area to a total of 60,980 square meters.
  • Under the new building, there will be a two-storey underground car park with 500 parking spaces, integrated with the existing garage, giving a total of 3326 parking spaces.

According to HVG, work will begin in the third quarter of 2020, the construction time is expected to be 2 years, and only 60 percent of the three-hectare site will be built in. It will also include new shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities and a fitness center.

The Pest County Government Office's website also contains a notice to this effect (Preliminary examination procedure for the extension of the ARENA MALL shopping center on Budapest, District VIII, Kerepesi út 9, No. 38829/6). On December 10 last year, the Office initiated the environmental authority proceedings in the matter.
